Horizon House is seeking a Psychiatrist with interest and expertise in community psychiatry for a position in Bucks County Pennsylvania.
Since 1952, Horizon House, a non-profit organization, has been widely recognized for its services as a provider of community-based behavioral health, mental retardation and homeless services in Eastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware. Each year, Horizon House provides a continuum of services at over 100 sites to over 3,000 adults with psychiatric or developmental disabilities, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or homelessness. A pioneer in the field of community-based rehabilitation, Horizon House is widely recognized for its innovative approach to the delivery of services in a community setting.
Horizon House is seeking a full time Psychiatrist to provide services to individuals receiving support from our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and Crisis Residential services.
The Psychiatrist uses an electronic medical record (Credible software) that is easy to learn and provides services in the community (can travel alone and/ or with staff). The Psychiatrist may get phone calls at hours other than 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. For example personnel from a Crisis Response Centers may call and want to talk with the doctor about someone who arrives at the emergency room for treatment.
Some of the responsibilities include:
Ø Conducting psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and 5 Axis DSM IV diagnoses and present assessment results at daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
Ø Supervising the treatment team in the comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and response, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; physical and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships.
Ø Collaborating with the registered nurses in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
Ø Prescribing psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients regarding psychotropic medications.
Ø Performing individual, group and family supportive therapy and psychotherapy and illness education in the process of carrying out the tasks above.
Ø Along with other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process, and assist in their family member’s progress
Ø Providing on-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone, after hours, and as on-call backup to the first-line on-call staff.

Ø Possess validPA state license to practice medicine.
Ø Boardcertified or board eligible in psychiatry.
Ø Skills andcompetence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons withsevere and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights andpersonal preferences in treatment are essential.
Ø Clinicalsupervisory experience is desirable.
Ø Must beknowledgeable of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model.
Ø Possession ofa valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ø Excellent oraland written communication skills.
