Job Description/Essential Functions:

Horizon House, Inc. is a nationally recognized provider of services to adults with support needs due to developmental disabilities, behavioral health issues and substance abuse. Horizon House is Pennsylvania’s oldest psychiatric rehabilitation agency. Since 1952, Horizon House has been dedicated to helping people with mental illness, drug and alcohol addictions, development/intellectual disabilities and homelessness to help stabilize their lives and to help them live as independently as possible in the community. With over 100 locations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware, Horizon House provides services to a diverse population focusing on individual strength and choice.

We are seeking a qualified candidate who is interested in joining our Creative Vision Factory team.

The Recovery Learning Specialist is part of the Creative Vision team, who provides flexible, community based services that are designed to promote the empowerment, recovery and community integration of individuals who have severe mental health conditions.

Some of the responsibilities would include the following:

  • Provide information and engage participants in discussion about the availability and benefits of peer support in the recovery process.
  • Assist participants who request help in exploring their levels of satisfaction with various aspects of their lives and possibility for change.
  • Provide education and assistance with the development of participant’s goals.
  • Support participants in making choices regarding their individual basic needs including food, shelter, safety and financial resources and assisting them with identifying and accessing appropriate linkages.
  • Promote increased participation in the community through exposure, exploration, education, and support activities.
Job Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma/GED, Bachelors of Art degree preferred, and at least two years’ experience with adults with serious mental illness or a combination of experience of education and training.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer specialist preferred.
  • Knowledge of the mental health service delivery system and consumer rights within the system.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Basic computer skills, ability to use the internet.


  • Requires the ability to lift, carry up to 25 pounds, fold, kneel, reach, stoop and bend.
  • Flexibility in work schedule as needed.
  • Frequent talking and listening.
